Models and Advertising: How does it work?

What is in an advert?

Consider these questions from memory about the last advert you saw. If you can't think of one, lets take something like the health food processor as an example.

What was the predominant colour used in the advert? What was the model wearing, what colour was it? Did the model look happy? Was the model over weight? What foods did they use in the machine? Did the model perhaps start the advert looking sad, and then look happy after having the smoothie? What room was it filmed in? How light was it? How did it make you feel?

So, most of us will have the correct answers to these questions as this type of 'healthy living' advert always seems to follow the same pattern. They want us to think of cleanliness, healthiness, and happiness and then associate these things with the product itself. How does the model come into this equation? Well, although the product will be aimed at people who consider themselves overweight or unhealthy, the advertisers create a role model for the viewer and a feeling of “I want to look like them! I’m going to buy that gizmo!” It’s a system that works over and over again. Make some changes to the questions above and ask yourself the same types of question about an advert for a gym you saw. Doesn't it follow the same kind of pattern? Models Direct have requests for all sorts of assignments.

It is this same tactic that makes us think of gyms as being full of fit people. The types of models who get gym advertising modeling jobs are always muscular and good looking. They become role models in the process and a negative consequence is that anyone with any feeling of self consciousness about their weight will be put off going to the gym! We know in actual fact that many gym members are trying to shift weight rather than prepare for body builder competitions, so don’t let those negative feelings take hold.  Find out more about modeling jobs by looking at the Models Direct website or get in touch with a local agency. If you choose to go for an agency membership then make sure you sign a non-exclusive agreement and that the agency are a registered employer and properly government regulated like Models Direct are.

Becoming a Male Model

Becoming a Male Model

Male modelling aims at selling products to the male market, most of them being clothes. Companies want to work with reliable and attractive models to sell certain products to consumers around the world. Many cloth designers have been known to work with male models for the purposes of marketing communications. It is a lucrative job in many ways, and there are many male models around the world, apart from the celebrities. So, do you want to become one? Here are a few tips that will enhance your chances of becoming a professional male model.

Fitness is the first thing you must consider. It is the same for female modelling, only that there are also a lot plus size female models coming up and making waves these days. The first thing that you have to do is hit the gym with discipline. A good body will give you the upper hand when you go to a casting. Another thing you have to do is look out for a reliable agency, one which will give you the platform to model. This means that you have to do your homework to enhance your chances of getting only the right agency. You need to always have it at the back of your mind that there are many companies out there ready to use you and dump you afterwards, with little or no payment even after an assignment. The Models Direct team sometimes hear horror stories and only work with trusted clients to ensure that high standards are maintained. If you're looking for an agency, ask around and visit companies in person before settling on any one option. Male modelling is not the same as that of women. You do not have to show up with a portfolio and have experience, in many cases. The only thing you need to have is the required look. The casting director will consider your height, weight and body type when making a decision. If you have already read the Talent Management blog featuring BVG Airflo's client feedback, you might be interested to hear what Chloe had to say! Here's the email she sent us:

I really enjoyed my day being a model. I was nervous beforehand, but felt at ease as soon as I met the people I was working with. I was modelling satin dressing gowns for the Clifford James catalog, which will also appear in Groupon and The Daily Mail. I also got asked to model a pair of leggings and a new happy light.  This made me more confident for next time and I have learnt not to be so nervous in the future.  This type of modelling work is something I would absolutely like to do again. I would recommend this experience to others because it's fun, enjoyable and a great experience to help build confidence. Thanks Talent Management for a great first assignment!

Models Direct Modelling Jobs

Models Direct Modelling Jobs

Welcome to the Models Direct blog. Models Direct are one of the UK's largest modelling agencies and connect models with real business every day. We are a government regulated employment agency with real offices and staff dedicated to finding modelling jobs. Below is some feedback that Models Direct and parent company Talent Management recently received from Tony and Lou, the mother of child model Ashantai!

"I was feeling a bit nervous on the night before my assignment. My job was to pose as someone charging an electric car at a car electric car charge point. I had to be at the location in Milton Keynes at 8.30am that morning. It was my first time as a model, but when I met the photo crew they made me feel very relaxed. At the end of the shoot I felt great as I had a lot of fun. I have a friend who wants to be a model and have told them to sign up to Talent Management, as I got work after only 2 months of registering! I will be keeping my e-portfolio up to date to ensure I get offered further exciting opportunities. I signed up with Talent Management to gain experience within the modelling industry, and a little extra money is always a bonus."

"Ashantai had the most exciting day as a model for Kit for Kids. We could see her confidence grow and grow throughout the day. The most enjoyable part of the day for Ashantai was the interaction between herself, the photographers and another child model - she really enjoyed making new friends! The photo shoot was very educational - Ashantai was directed to find the right time on the clock and matching up the correct colours on certain pictures. All in all, she found it all really fun, whilst learning too - and she would love to do it again! I would definitely recommend other children to join Talent Management and work with Kit for Kids - the staff at both company's are so friendly, and encouraging and very professional. This opportunity has really helped Ashantai's confidence grow and has given her a big boost. We decided to sign Ashantai up with Talent Management because of their outstanding experience and reputation - and they certainly lived up to this. Ashantai is very happy and we are very proud and happy too!"

Talent Management Reviews from Archie and Jonathan

Modelling Reviews from Archie and Jon

Models Direct's parent company Talent Management received these fantastic reviews recently from Archie Dodd's mum and Jonathan Kumuteo who had modelling jobs in October!

"Archie really enjoyed his day modelling for Conway County Council, promoting an audio app for the castle and the church.  Archie was working with a model family, who all bonded well - Archie particularly enjoyed running with Erin (his model sister) around the castle grounds. There was plenty of giggles and fun was had by all.  Thanks Talent Management for a brilliant second assignment!

"Being an actor/entertainer for MediKidz in connection with Vision Express was an amazing and unforgettable experience. The most enjoyable part of the assignment was working with year two primary school kids and entertaining, teaching and informing them about eye care.

The assignment required myself and a group of 4 other talents to dress up as MediKidz super heroes and go into a primary school and teach/inform kids about eye health care and how it is important. I certainly gained a new profound knowledge and gained experience on this assignment and would recommend this type of assignment to anyone especially those who loves to work in groups and with children.  Thanks to Talent Management for the great opportunity!
